Strips of BBQ meat in skewers slowly cooked over charcoal fire and served with peanut based sauce. This used to be Malay traditional dish but has since been served by others in the state. In some shops, you can also get ‘ketupat’ or small steamed rice wrapped in coconut leaves together with the satay. Popular throughout the city it is usually served at night but some coffee shops do have them for breakfast too, usually with ‘mee jawa’ a traditional Malay favourite.
